China’s self imposed fishing ban in the East China Sea, including the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture and the Taiwan Strait, partially ended on the 16th. Many fishing boats departed from a fishing port in Shishi City, Fujian Province. Since December of last year, it has been confirmed that Chinese fishing boats have gathered in the waters near the Japan-China median line in the East China Sea, and experts analyze that this was a large-scale training exercise by maritime militia. The Japanese government is closely monitoring the movements of the fishing boats. At noon on the 16th when the ban ended, fishing boats departed one after another from Xiangzhi Central Fishing Port in Shishi City. While setting off firecrackers in celebration, one fisherman testified, "There are maritime militia fishermen in this fishing port as well."
